As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our shared Windows hosting platform secure, stable, and up to date, we are upgrading PHP across all servers. This upgrade will ensure that your websites run on the latest supported versions of PHP that are maintained by the community and protected against vulnerabilities.
Why this change:
We understand that many customers have relied on older PHP versions for their websites, which is why we continued supporting them even after they were officially deprecated (reference - https://www.php.net/eol.php). However, these versions now present security risks and lack performance improvements. To provide a safer and more reliable hosting environment, we will be carrying out this upgrade. This will be performed in two phases.
Phase 1: Soft Upgrade – Starting September 8th, 2025
Following steps would be performed on servers in batches.
Step 1: Testing on PHP 8.4 Every website on our servers will first be tested on the latest PHP version, 8.4, which is the newest and most secure version available.
Step 2: Staying on PHP 8.4 if compatible If your website runs without any issues on PHP 8.4, it will remain on this version permanently. No further changes will be needed.
Step 3: Checking compatibility with PHP 8.1 to 8.3 If your website encounters errors or compatibility issues on PHP 8.4, we will test it on lower versions (from 8.3 down to 8.1) to determine if it works with any of them. If compatible, the most stable version between 8.1 and 8.3 will be applied.
Step 4: Fallback to the original version If your website does not work on any PHP versions between 8.1 and 8.4, we will roll it back to the original version.
step 5 : 30-day preparation window If the websites meet step 4, which is not compatible between 8.1 and 8.4, all customers will be given 30 days to make their websites compatible with PHP versions 8.1 to 8.4. During this time, you can review your site, update your CMS, plugins, themes, or any custom code to ensure it runs smoothly on these supported versions.
Phase 2: Hard Upgrade – Starting October 1, 2025
After the 30-day window, all websites will be upgraded to PHP 8.4. At this stage, all older PHP versions (up to 8.0) will be permanently removed from the platform and will no longer be available.
Disclaimer: If your website is already running on PHP 8.1 or higher, no action is required.
